Site and Feed Information
First I would like to welcome all users to the site. I would like to thank everyone for their support. I have tried to keep up with the emails and requests. If anyone has an idea or comment I would like to hear it. With feedback comes change and improvement please inform me if there is a problem or a feed is down, as I do not always know. The faster I know the faster I can restore it.
How do live feeds work? Live feeds work by having a computer and scanner working together, as a feed server, the scanner is your source, the computer is the link to the WWW. When they’re used together you get a live feed. The Ocean City and PG County feeds run on a provider. A provider is a company that takes the stream of data that is from the feed server and gives it the bandwidth that live feeds need. Bandwidth is how much speed an internet connection has. These feeds are sometimes hard to control. But due to the amount of listeners are required to take the load from the amount of users.
Ocean City Feed Information The Ocean City feed is the first feed I started with. The feed has evolved to a very busy feed link. The feed covers just Ocean City at this time. However during some mutual aid there will be some transmissions heard from Sussex County Delaware, also from Worcester County MD.
Wicomico County Feed Information Wicomico County was brought online with the help of the owners and operators of Fire In The Hole Photography. The re site is very fun and exciting there pictures and stories are great and well written. So I was contacted and asked if we could get a feed going. Right now it’s not much but it works. Later we will work to get an 800 MHz feed live and running.
Prince Georges County Feed Information PG County was a joint effort… I and a friend of mine that lives in the Bowie area put the feed in his house. The downside to this is that he is not home a lot due to a government job. So when the feed server loses power sometimes it can take a day or 2 to get it restored. I am working on a way for the server to restart and connect the live feed all automatically sounds easy but is not… I am currently looking into splitting the Dispatch and Ops channels they will still be free. The dispatch feed will have no alpha tags. But the Ops channels will. If someone would like to provide me freqs and channel numbers, also maybe some way that is easy for everyone to identify for the alpha tags.
The feeds are free because I feel that everyone deserves to be a part of the action. However feed providers come at a price. PG County is paid for by me every month at a cost of $30 dollars. Fast-Serv is the provider currently in use. I tried going to a paid service and took a lot of criticism for it, so I removed it and made it free once more. But sometimes it is just a little too much. I did not want to go with a free streaming service, free services go down and are not reliable. Examples: Streamwebtown.com would go down almost every day. I had feeds on team speak then the owner of the server deleted the database, I am sure an accident but still. I wanted my feeds to be rock solid. I am working as hard and fast as one person can to accomplish that goal. I had donation links on the website, if you feel that you can put some funds toward the cause then thank you very much.
